Partner Feature: Arpp, Root & Carter Funeral Home

In the funeral business, it’s all about being personable and connecting with families in the most difficult times. This sense of connection is exactly what eFuneral Partner, Arpp, Root & Carter strives for each day. Located in Germantown, Ohio, the funeral home and its Owner/Funeral Director, Kari Carter, prides itself in their ability to bring families through the planning process with genuine care.

This legacy of care started with John Arpp, who opened the funeral home in the early 1900’s, a couple of years after Mr. Arpp’s passing, Carter’s stepfather, Jay Root, purchased and re-opened the funeral home in the early 80’s. Carter recalls her beginning in the funeral business under her stepfather when she started helping out with some of the behind-the-scenes details.

“When my stepfather had calls/funerals, he would have me come in and assist in the office and with various jobs throughout the funeral home, eventually he taught me how to do the cosmetology, dressing and casketing,” she said. This introduction into the funeral world fueled Carter’s ambition to pursue the funeral business as a profession.

Carter’s step-father eventually suggested that she become a licensed director and after entertaining options she completed the requirements for her funeral director’s license in January of 2018. Carter then purchased the business from her stepfather in July of 2018, and now runs Arpp, Root and Carter as its sole funeral director, who understands the importance of modern consumer shopping habits, while maintaining the kind face-to-face interactions which help families feel taken care of.

“I’ll often have families call or come in and get quotes, but I find they almost always come back to me because of the care and courtesy provided during the planning process,” Carter said. “I know customers want to look at prices online first, so I provide those on our website. But the thing which keeps them coming back is the service and care we provide.”

Most importantly, Carter sites the small, family operation aspect as one of the most unique parts of Arpp Root & Carter. “With other big corporations, you may have multiple people handling the loved one, planning process and service. Here, the family meets with one person – me – from beginning to end. It's a family-owned and family-feeling funeral home,” she said.
